Capt. Hearn was a Civil War Veteran of Co. C , 1st TN Heavy Artillery, according to contributor Linda Moore Mora.

He was at the battles of Columbus, Kentucky: Island No. 10 and Fort Pillow. He was captured during the siege of Vicksburg but was later exchanged. He was again capture at the sieged of Fort Morgan and was imprisoned in Elmira, New York until he was exchanged just prior to the surrender.
In 1877 Mr. Hearn settled in Franklin, TN where he was a prominent lawyer for over forty years. In 1868 he had married Louia D. James who had two children before her death at the age of twenty seven in 1874. Evidently both children died young as no further mention of them is found. In 1877 he married Mary Alice McEwen. An infant son died in 1881 an infant daughter in 1882. The Hearns had two other sons, Whitson Page a beautiful and winning child who died on Christmas Day in 1883 at the age of five and John McEwen who died on Christmas day in 1940. Alice McEwen Hearn died in 1899 and in 1901 Captain Hearn married Lucy Bonner Deimer by a previous marriage. Mrs. Hearn died in 1919. After Captain Hearns death in 1921 the home remained in the hands of his heirs until 1946.
