WIA in left thigh and taken POW at Gettysburg Pa 7/1-5/1863. His unit was in Pickett's Charge.
HE WAS ONE OF 4 Co A MEN WHO SURVIVED.
Hospitalized at several hospitals at Chambersburg Pa where left leg was amputated due to wounds ( without anesthetic)
Paroled at Baltimore Maryland 11/12/1863
Transferred to City Point Va for exchange.
Retired from service July-Oct 1864 and before 10/31.
After the war he returned to Ashe Cty NC and became Baptist Minister in Lansing
He joined the Primitive Baptist Church at Big Helton
Buried at Baldwin Ceme Lansing
9 Children 5 boys 4 girls. 7 survived father
