MATOAKA - Born February 14, 1935 at Springton, she was the daughter of the late Corbett Bailey and Mazie Stanley Bailey.
Mrs. Hurst was a graduate of Matoaka High School where she was Salutatorian of her graduating class. She attended Lashmeet Church of God and Assembly of God in Princeton. She was a former store clerk and later store manager of the company store at Turkey Gap. She enjoyed cooking, camping, being outdoors and especially spending time with her family and grandsons.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 50 years, Trevis Hurst in 2003; four brothers, Aaron Bailey, Alfred Bailey, Alvin Bailey and Russell Bailey; and one sister, Glenna Mills.
Survivors include one daughter, Bonita Sink and her husband Jerry of Lashmeet; two sisters, Betty Shrewsbury of Lashmeet and Carol Pinkston and her husband Buddy of Niceville, FL; two grandsons, Dane Sink and his wife Lindsay of Pittsburgh, PA and Todd Sink and his wife Stephani of Charleston; two great-grandchildren, Avery Sink of Charleston and Henry Sink of Pittsburgh, PA; several nieces and nephews; and special friends, Ellen Elliott of Lashmeet and Nancy Blankenship of Matoaka.
Funeral services will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, January 30, 2014 at the Rowland H. Bailey Funeral Chapel of the Bailey-Kirk Funeral Home in Princeton with the Rev. Gary Raulerson officiating. Interment will follow at Roselawn Memorial Gardens in Princeton. Honoring her request, Joy wanted a closed casket service.
Serving as pallbearers will be Hector Brim, Harold Burkett, Scott Clark, Jr., Jerry Heaton, Rondel Shrewsbury and Ernest Winterowd.
The family will receive friends Thursday, January 30, 2014 from 10:00 a.m. until service hour at the Bailey-Kirk Funeral Home in Princeton.
