Lewis D. Baylor Jr., 66, of Manchester, formerly of Eldersburg died Monday, Jan. 27, 2014.
Born July 21, 1947, in Munich, Germany, he was the son of the late Lewis Deal Baylor Sr. and Charlotte G. Stamminger Baylor. He was the husband of Michele A. "Micki" Baylor, his wife of 34 years.
He served in the Air Force from August 1966 to August 1970. He was stationed in Trapzon, Turkey. Following the completion of his active duty service, he earned an Associate of Arts degree from the College of DuPage in Glen Ellyn, Ill.
He worked for the Department of Defense and the National Security Agency for 36 years. During his career with the NSA, he participated in various special projects, and provided support for military operations around the world vital to U.S. national security. In addition to his work at NSA headquarters, he was also stationed in Alice Springs, Australia, and at Menwith Hill Station in England. He was commended for his contributions to operations Desert Storm, Desert Shield and Iraqi Freedom, and for his support to the 1996 Summer Olympics in Atlanta as a member of the DOD Support Team.
He retired from government service in November 2002, and took a position with S.A.I.C., a government contracting company, for nine years. He fully retired in May 2012.
He was a Freedom Optimist girls softball, soccer and basketball coach for many years. At the time of his death, he was a member of the Carroll County Recreation and Parks Advisory Board.
He was a 42-year Freemason with the Bensenville Lodge in Illinois and a 32nd Degree Scottish Rite Freemason with the Valley of Baltimore Orient, of Maryland.
Surviving, in addition to his wife, are a daughter, Lindsey Jeanne Baylor; brothers Ken M. Baylor and wife Carla, and George L. Baylor and wife Terry; sisters-in law M. Patricia Amato and husband Sam, and Jan C. Farrell and husband Pat; and many nieces and nephews.
