BRISTOL, Va. Philip Lee Osborne, 89, of Bristol, Va., passed away Wednesday, January, 22, 2014. He was born May 4, 1924, in Castlewood, Va., a son of the late Emmit and Hilda Osborne. Philip was a retired Senior Chief Petty Officer with 25 years of service in the United States Navy and he served proudly in WW II. He was a civil service retiree with 15 years of service as a police officer and a firefighter at Mayport Naval Air Station in Jacksonville, Florida. He was a member of the American Legion Post #208 and the Fraternal Order of Police Lodge #107. Philip was a member of Northstar Baptist Church, Bristol, Va., and a former member of Bethel Baptist Church in Lebanon, Va. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Una Osborne Meade; and brother, Charlie Osborne. Survivors include his wife of 65 years, Stella Jackson Osborne; one brother, Frank Osborne, Bristol, Va.; two daughters, Jane Osborne Green, Palm Beach Gardens, Fla., and Abby Osborne Altizer and husband, Danny, Rosedale, Va.; three grandchildren, Christopher Altizer, Fort worth, Tex., William T. Altizer and wife, Bridget, Rosedale, Va., and Alison Green Marks and husband, John, Palm Beach Gardens, Fla.; three great grandchildren, Maddy Altizer, Damian Altizer, and Wesley John Marks; also several nieces, nephews; and special friends. The family wishes to thank and to express their deepest appreciation to Pastor Bill Houch and the members of North Star Baptist Church for their outpouring of love and support as well as many caring friends and neighbors. The funeral service will be conducted 2 p.m. Sunday, January 26, 2014, at the Combs Funeral Service chapel with Pastor Bill Houch and Pastor Danny Altizer officiating. Burial will follow at Temple Hill Memorial Park in Castlewood. Serving the family as pallbearers will be Neil Osborne, Chris Altizer, Will Altizer, Danny Altizer, Carson Moats, and Steve White. Honorary pallbearers will be members of Northstar Baptist Church. Military honors will be conducted by the Lebanon V.F.W. Post 9864 Honor Guard. A gathering of family and friends will be one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.
