Eileen Cannon Bennion McKean died January 26, 2014 at the age of eighty-nine. Eileen leaves a large and devoted family, who loved her for her gentle, sweet and selfless nature.

Eileen was born in Salt Lake City on April 24, 1924, the daughter of Glynn and Lucille Bennion.

Eileen's youth was filled with a variety of experiences. Her father homesteaded several ranches in the Great Basin, where the family spent their summers. The rest of the year the family lived in Salt Lake, where her mother was a teacher and local artist who produced wonderful artwork for the LDS Church.

Eileen was very proud of her heritage and often told her children about the Bennion and Cannon pioneers and family, and their devotion to their faith.

Eileen married Frank on September 10, 1943. Together, they had nine children. In addition to raising the large brood, Eileen was extensively involved in the Daughters of the Utah Pioneers and a writing group comprised of dear friends. The writing group lasted for decades and was a treasured part of Eileen's life.

Eileen was a devoted member of the LDS Church, serving in any calling extended to her. In 1984, Eileen and Frank served as missionaries in the Sao Paolo, Brazil temple. Frank was then called to serve as a mission president of the Brazil Recife mission in 1986. Eileen and Frank served in that capacity for six months, after which Frank died of a heart attack. Eileen has spent the remaining twenty-seven years of her life caring for and loving her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.

We love, respect, and admire Eileen for being such a remarkable, patient, selfless, and sweet presence in our lives.

Besides Frank, Eileen was preceded in death by three brothers, a grandson, Joseph Cottrell; and a granddaughter, Elizabeth McKean. She is survived by her brother, George Bennion, and sons and daughters (and spouses): John (Sally), Susan Cottrell (Lynn), Rebecca, Nicholas (Kathleen), Julie Prince (Bill), Paul (Rosalia), William (Diane), Daniel (Suzanne), and David (Linda). She is also survived by thirty-two grandchildren and thirty-four great-grandchildren.

The family wishes to thank Beehive Homes and Millcreek Home and Hospice for the wonderful care they provided Eileen.

Funeral services will be held at 12:00 p.m, on Saturday, February 1, 2014 in the Monument Park Stake Center, 1320 South Wasatch Drive, Salt Lake City, Utah. A viewing will be held on that date from 10:30 to 11:40 a.m. at the church prior to the services.
