Lauri McDonald Brown LUBBOCK-Lauri McDonald Brown, 52, through struggle and triumph, accomplished her goal and was healed of cancer in Heaven on Monday, Jan. 27, 2014, just before midnight. Her three-year battle created many blessings and amazing friends along her journey. Her motto was God has a plan. He is in charge. Lauri was born in Odessa, Texas. Her early school years began in Andrews before her family moved to Midland for her elementary and junior high school years. It was there that Lauri made her best lifelong friends. In 1977, her family was transferred to Fort Worth, where she attended Eastern Hills High School. In 1979, the family moved to Odessa, where Lauri graduated with the class of 1980 from Permian High School. After high school, Lauri made her home in Fort Worth. She graduated from UT Arlington, and began her career as the program director at Eastside YMCA. In 1989, she began working at the Fort Worth Transit Authority, where she became the Assistant VP over the MITS division. Lauri felt that her work at The -T was her greatest professional accomplishment. Just this month, Lauri received her 25 year pin from FWTA. Her family at the T was a giant blessing in her life, and she deeply loved her co-workers. Lauri was a member of Southcliff Baptist Church in Fort Worth, where she taught the two year-old Sunday School Class for many years. As her cancer progressed, she deeply regretted not being able to teach her beloved two year-olds. She and her husband, Kyle, were very active in the ESL ministry. Lauri's greatest joy and blessing in life was her son, Casey Scull of Norman, Okla., and her beloved husband, Kyle. She is survived by her parents, Neil and Rue McDonald of Lubbock; a sister, Lisa Robertson and her husband Michael of Lubbock; a brother, Lance McDonald and his wife Lauren of Fort Worth; a stepdaughter, Brianna Rodgers and her husband Alex of Grapevine. Lauri is also survived by nephews, Chris Robertson, Cory Robertson, and Austen Winfrey; and nieces, Shelbie McDonald and Alexa Winfrey. A celebration of life service will be held on Friday, Jan. 31, at 2:30 p.m. at Southcliff Baptist Church, 4100 SW Loop 820, Ft. Worth. Tremendous and heartfelt thanks go to Monterey Church of Christ, Calvert Home Health, and Calvert Personal Care Services and Hospice of Lubbock for their amazing care and support while Lauri was being cared for in Lubbock. Donations can be made to Hospice of Lubbock, 3702 21st street, Lubbock, TX 79410, or to Island Dolphin Care, 150 Lorelane Pl, Key Largo, FL, 33037. 2 Timothy 4:7-8: I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith. Now there is in store for me the crown of righteousness.
