Since Friday, Alvin Wallace, 37-yer-old laborer, had battled against death after a freight train mangled his legs. Death won the battle last night. Wallace died in the San Joaquin General hospital at 7:30. He was the father of six children, the oldest 10 years old.
Wallace was found lying on the Western Pacific tracks near the Mormon Slough Bridge shortly after a train passed by Friday afternoon. He was taken to Emergency Hospital, where Dr. John O. Eccleston performed an emergency operation to remove both feet. Death came despite a series of blood transfusions. He was never able to describe how the accident happened.
