Death came to Russell Edward Hann, aged 17 years, of near Berrett,
on Saturday night, November 15, 1941, at the Frederick City Hospital,
as a result of an accidental discharge of a shotgun about noon the same day.
The youth, who was a son of Russell P. and Nellie B. Hann, was out hunting
on his father's farm and had stopped to rest on the doorstep of the
tenant house. His weapon, which he held between his legs, slipped in some
manner and in falling hit a stone which caused it to discharge. He was
wounded in the abdomen. Besides his parents he leaves a
brother Kenneth and two sisters, Emma K. and Janet B., all at home; also
his paternal grandmother, Mrs. Emma Hann of Finksburg. He was
graduated from the Taneytown High School last June.
Funeral services were conducted Tuesday, meeting at the late home at
1:30 P.M., with further rites at 2 o'clock in Winter's Lutheran church,
near New Windsor. The Rev. George E. Bowersox, Jr.. officiated, assisted
by the Rev. Carl Mumford, pastor of Messiah Lutheran church, Berrett.
Burial was in the cemetery adjoining the church. C. M. Waltz, funeral director.
