Hugh P. Bowen, 77, passed away at his home on Sept. 30, 2013. Funeral services will be at 3 p.m. on Oct. 3 at the Oak Grove Baptist Church with burial following in the church cemetery. The Rev. Earl Henderson will officiate the service. Hugh was born on Nov. 11, 1935 in Marlboro County, S.C., a son of the late Arthur and Katie Dunn Bowen. He enjoyed farming and worked with Southeastern Wire and the Mid Atlantic Pipe and Fence Company. Later in life he retired from Stewartsville Enterprise where he worked with the Cotton Gin. Before his illness, Hugh attended Oak Grove Baptist Church and enjoyed gardening. Above all, he was a loving and devoted husband, father, and grandfather who will truly be missed. In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by siblings Clyde Bowen, Letha Turner, Charles Bowen, Judd Bowen, Jimmy Ray Bowen, and Neal Bowen. Hugh is survived by his loving wife Hazel Clark Bowen of the home, sons Doug Bowen and wife Rayma of Maxton and Kenny Bowen and wife Angela of Maxton, brother Clarence Bowen and wife Mildred of McColl, S.C., sisters Etta Bowen Roller of McColl, S.C. and Linda Bowen Chavis of Laurinburg, five grandchildren, many nieces and nephews, and a host of family and friends. Visitation will be from 6-8 p.m. on Oct. 2 at Richard Boles Funeral Service. The family requests that memorial donations be made in Mr. Bowen's memory to Hospice of Scotland County, P.O. Box 1033, Laurinburg, NC 28353 or the Oak Grove Baptist Church, Laurinburg, NC. Services entrusted to Richard Boles Funeral Service.
