Professional Football Executive, College Football Coach. During his tenure as President and General Manager of the Philadelphia Eagles (1985 to 1995), the franchise clinched four playoff berths including a divisional title in 1988. Born and raised in South New Jersey, he played high school football and later collegiate football at Rider University. He earned a Master's Degree and doctorate in Business Education from Temple University. He launched his lengthy during the 1950s, initially on the high school level and later as head coach at Lafayette College in Easton, Pennsylvania (1967 to 1970). Under his guidance, he turned the school's fortunes around into a viable program, as they achieved a 7 win 3 loss record in 1968, with Gamble receiving NCAA Division III Coach of the Year honors. He would move on to the University of Pennsylvania and during his ten-season tenure as head coach (1971 to 1980), he guided the Quakers to three consecutive winning years (1972 to 1974). In 1981, he reached the professional level as an assistant on Dick Vermeil's coaching staff with the Philadelphia Eagles and under the proprietorship of Norman Braman, Gamble was elevated to team president and general manager.
