William B. "Bill" Mize, 83, of South Bend died Wednesday December 25, 2013 at his home. He was born in Mounds, IL to the late Jesse and Edith (Simmons) Mize. On March 4, 1949 in South Bend he married the former Dorothy M. Harris who died in 2007. He is survived by sons, David Mize (Toni) of Niles and Bill Mize (Tammy) of South Bend. Bill had one granddaughter, Krystal Mathias (Dan) and 4 great-grandchildren, Eric Simpson (Sierra), Jessica Simpson, Nicholas and Patrick Mathias; and one great-great grandson, Hunter David Simpson. Bill was preceded in death by his siblings Billy W. Mize, Jessie Mize, Orval Mize, Mary Larrison, Freda Wilburn, Lillian Bagby, Maybelle Wilson, and Erma Essex.

Bill retired from Reis Furniture Store after 35 years' service as a Cabinet Maker and refinisher. Bill was one of the original founders of the Clay Democratic Club in Roseland. He was a member of the former VFW Post # 624, Amvets and the NRA. Bill enjoyed hunting and fishing and was extremely proud of his Cherokee Indian Heritage.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Tuesday December 31, 2013 in the Welsheimer Family Funeral Home North, 17033 Cleveland Rd. Burial will follow in Highland Cemetery. Friends may visit with the family in the funeral home on Tuesday, two hours prior to services.
