Charles is the son of Guillaume Garnier, Sieur de Boisfontaine and Francoise des Challeu. He arrived in Quebec in 1661. In January 1664, he was granted four arpents of frontage land that was 126 arpents deep, by Guillaumette Hebert, widow of Guillaume Couillard. He had hunting and fishing rights within his boundaries. He paid rent for the property. This prime property on the Saint Lawrence River was less than 8/10's of a mile from the Montmorency River, in what is the parish of Boischatel today. There are over 130 records regarding Charles so too many transactions to mention. He lived on the Beaupre Coast though, for the rest of his life.

Charles married Louise Vezina on 21 December 1664, in Beaupre. They are the parents of the following (verified with PRDH):
1) Marie-Charlotte (1666-1736) md (a) Charles Maheu and (b) Jean Giroux
2) Charles (1668-1734) md (a) Jeanne-Angelique Maheu, (b) Marie-Charlotte Morel, and (c) Marie-Francoise Savard
3) Joseph (1671-1703) md Marie-Jeanne Maheu
4) Anne (abt 1673- )
5) Marie-Louise (1676-1762) md(a) Pierre Maheu, (b) Jean Blouin and (c) Valentin Marchand
6) Louis-Pierre (1678-1689)
7) Francois (1683-1700)
8) Marie-Francoise (1688-1722) md Charles Fiset
9) Jean-Baptiste (1689-1689)
10) Marie-Angelique (1690-1764) md Louis Giroux

He was living with his son Charles and his family, with the other children helping to provide his monetary support when he died. He was buried on 6 February 1717.
