Note: "Down Burnett Rd., about a mile from this corner (Burnett Rd. and West St.), at the base of a hill, on our left we find a very old house. It faces south toward the hill and traces of an old road can be seen which used to go by there to the top of Cold Hill near the old Montague house.... Jonathan Burnet came to Granby from Long Island about 1770 and purchased this farm, now the home of the Alfred Wilson family. ... Jonathan married Mehetable Dickinson and they had seven children. One of the sons, Bela, had a daughter, Salena, who married Nelson Smith, who was living here in 1887. This house is still owned and occupied by descendants of Jonathan Burnet and Nelson Smith. ... This house has a huge central chimney built up on heavy arches, and the bricks are all hand made. A log cabin is said to have been on this site before the house was built." [Philip Burnett reports that his brother took pictures of the house, as well as the gravestone of Jonathan and Mehetable Burnett. Submitted by Philip Burnett - [email protected]]
