Fred Rantz, 73, of 2123 Berg avenue, Benton Heights, died at noon Sunday (Feb. 24) at Memorial hospital, St. Joseph. He entered the hospital Feb. 16. He had been ill since 1962.

Mr. Rantz was born in Germany Oct. 25, 1889. He came here with his parents when he was nine years old. He married Edith Tatro on Nov. 17, 1910, in St. Joseph. She died Aug 5, 1946. He married Minnie Bernotas on April 19, 1947 in Benton Harbor.
Mr. Rantz was a retired carpenter.
Besides his wife he is survived by four daughters, Mrs. Pearl Craft of South Bend, Ind., Mrs. Charles (Doris) Craft of Muskegon, Mrs. Byron (Elizabeth) Lindbergh of South Bend and Mrs. Fred (Geraldine) Smith of Benton Harbor.
Also surviving are six sons, Edward of Benton Harbor, Emery of St. Joseph, Gilbert of Watervliet; Elmer of St Joseph, Fred Jr., and Gerald of Benton Harbor; a stepdaughter, Mrs. Elmer (Lilian) Rantz of St. Joseph; 28 grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren; two sisters, Mrs. Martha Martine of Elkhart, Ind., and Mrs. Julius Stanard of Bridgman; and three brothers, Otto Rantz of Three Oaks, John Rantz of Chicago and William Rantz of Kalamazo. A son, Dale, was killed in World War II.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday in the Kerlikowski, Starks & Beatty funeral home chapel, St. Joseph. The Rev. C. J. Beehler, of St. Paul's Evangelical and Reformed church in Bainbridge, will officiate.
Burial will be in Riverside cemetery, near Three Oaks.
