Michael Kent Burt

Michael Kent Burt, 56, passed away Tuesday, December 3, 2013, at his residence near Coldwater, KS. Born September 29, 1957, at Ashland, KS, he was the son of Charles Warren and Catharine Mary (White) Burt. Michael was a lifetime resident of Coldwater, KS. He graduated from Coldwater High School in 1975. On August 31, 1978, he married Glennda Lee Moreton at WaKeeney, KS. She survives. Michael farmed on the Burt Family Farm for many years. He worked as a law enforcement officer for Comanche County for much of his life and served as Comanche County Sheriff from 1996-1998. He was also an ordained minister, providing guidance for many through the Crisis Ministry of Southern Kansas. His memberships include: Masonic Lodge; Kansas Sheriff's Association; Comanche County Ministerial Alliance; and F.O.L.K.S.

He is survived by his wife: Glennda Burt of Coldwater, KS; three children: Rebecca Bruckner (Danny) of Coldwater, KS, Eric Burt (Kimberly) of Coldwater, KS, and Michelle Burt (Tarquin Trujillo) of Johnson, KS; two brothers: Chuck Burt of Topeka, KS and Andrew Burt (Lisa) of Davenport, IA; two sisters: Suzanne Timmer (Kenneth) of Wilmore, KS and Karen Kile of Houston, TX; five grandchildren: Jacob Bruckner, Tristen Bruckner, Hope Burt, Emily Burt, and Jayden Trujillo; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents.

Friends may call from 1:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., Friday, December 6, 2013, at Hatfield-Prusa Funeral Home, Coldwater, KS.

Funeral service is at 2:00 p.m., Saturday, December 7, 2013, at the First Christian Church in Coldwater, KS, with Rev. Jerry Hodges presiding.

Burial will follow the funeral service at Crown Hill Cemetery in Coldwater, KS.
