Mary Newell MahaffeyFORT MILL - Mrs. Mary Newell Mahaffey, 89, of Fort Mill, S.C., died Saturday, Jan. 25, 2014, at White Oak Manor in Rock Hill, S.C. The family will receive friends from 1 to 2 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 28, 2014, at Wolfe Funeral Home. The funeral will follow at 2 p.m., with Pastor Wally Buchanan officiating. Burial will be at Unity Cemetery. Born in Greenville, Mrs. Mahaffey was a daughter of the late William D. Newell and Louvenia "Lou" Collins Newell. She worked for the U.S. Ammunition Depot (Shell Plant) in Pineville and for Springs Industries. Mrs. Mahaffey was a member of St. John's United Methodist Church for more than 80 years. She enjoyed gardening, reading and being outside with nature. Surviving are her son, Fred Mahaffey and his wife, Kim of Fort Mill; two daughters, Debbie Buchanan of Fort Mill and Brenda McCoy and her husband, Wayne of Rock Hill; six grandchildren, Bill Mahaffey, Marcey Shepherd, Kim Steele and David (Vicki), Duane (Cristi) and Todd McCoy; and numerous great-grandchildren, Kristen Vinesett, Emilee Green, Zoey Mahaffey, Jordy (Becky) McCoy, Jared McCoy, Jeremy McCoy, Jade McCoy, Brendan McCoy, Madison and Christian McCoy and McCenzi McCoy; and her great-great-grandchild, Cullen Brock Vinesett. She was preceded in death by her husband of 59 years, William Frederick Mahaffey Sr. (2009). Mrs. Mahaffey was looking forward to her second great-great-grandchild, Hayden Leigh McCoy to be born on Feb. 25, 2014, to Jordy and Becky McCoy.
