William F. Wellek was born Feb. 4, 1930, in Loyalhanna, a son of William U. (Hugh?) and Cora (Hess) Wellek.

He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War.

William married Katherine D. Priestas, and they became the parents of a son and a daughter.

He worked for and retired from Teledyne Vasco.

William attended Holy Family Roman Catholic Church. He was a life member of the Frontier Club and a member of Thomas B. Anderson American Legion Post 515.

At the age of 81, William F. Wellek, of Latrobe passed away Tuesday, Jan. 3, 2012, in Select Specialty Hospital - Laurel Highlands, Latrobe.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Katherine D. Priestas Wellek, in 2009; a stepdaughter, Marianne Hardesty Koski, and three brothers, Hugo, Donald and Joseph Wellek.

He was survived by two children, William R. Wellek of Latrobe and Deborah Baker and her husband, Carson, of Rural Valley; a grandson, Michael Challinor and his wife, Rachel, of Latrobe; a sister, Roma Hamerski of Derry, as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
