The family will receive friends from 5:00 – 7:00 P.M., Monday, January 27, 2014, at Carolina Funeral Home, Scranton. Graveside funeral services will be at 11:00 A.M., Tuesday, January 28, 2014, at the Coward Pentecostal Holiness Church Cemetery.
Mr. Pate was born June 28, 1935, in Florence County, a son of the late James Lewis "Jim" Pate and Ida McAllister Pate. He was a retired farmer and member of Coward Pentecostal Holiness Church where he was a former Deacon. Mr. Pate formerly served as a Councilman for 21 years for the Town of Coward, and a member of the Robert Burns Masonic Lodge #337 for 50 years.
Surviving besides his wife, Vivian Hyman Pate of the home, include a daughter, Vickie Pate Norton of Lugoff; son Jack W. (Linda) Pate, Jr., of Coward; grandchildren, Patrick T. (Amanda) Norton of Washington, DC, Jack W. "Jay" (Brittany) Pate, III, and Tyler Pate, both of Coward, and Jerrin B. Norton of Blythewood; and sisters, Eldera McGee, Evelee Prosser and Annie Bell (Charles) Langston, all of Coward. Mr. Pate was preceded in death by two brothers, Reverend Luria Pate and Marion Pate; and three sisters, Marguerite Thompkins, Rosa Lee Miles and Rutina Powell.
