John married first to Ada A Morehead, dau of William L and Mary Estella (Riggs) Morehead. They married 20 Aug 1874 in Mercer Co, Illinois and they were on the 1875 State Census of Raymond, Rice Co, Kansas. Ada's parents were living in Raymond, Rice Co, KS at that time and John's family also came to Lyons, Rice Co, Kansas about 1878. John & Ada had a daughter Pearl Day b. 1876 in Joy, Mercer Co, Illinois. John & Ada then divorced as Ada married 2nd to George Henry Payne in 1880. Ada & George H both died in Seattle, Washington in the late 1920's. John married 2nd to Elnora Amanda Browning, daughter of Caleb & Elvira (Fuller) Browning in 1884 in Rice Co, Kansas. John died in an accident in 1890.
