Emzi Dayton "Date" McIver was the youngest son of Thomas and Ellen McIlvain McIver. He was born in Kansas in November of 1874. He had three older siblings shown by census: Donald H."Bert"; Thomas J.; and Isabelle A. "Bell, who married Franklin P Shnurr. An oldest brother, Henry, is referred to in a family document, who apparently died young.
Emzi Dayton "Date" McIver married Susie M. Cooksie in 1897. There were three daughters shown in the known record: Ettie S., born in the year of their marriage; Alice B., who died before 1905; and Elizabeth, born about 1913.
This marriage may have been troubled; the 1920 census seems to show Date McIver at a lodging house, saying that he is widowed. At the same time Susie M. McIver with her children is shown living at her father's house in Nickerson, saying that she is married. Had the marriage years before, begun under forced circumstances? Documents showing the month of marriage in 1897 compared to the month of the child's birth in 1897 have not been not found.
During the period approximating the marriage, from 1895 to 1915, Dayton was a tenant farmer. At the time of the apparent break-up, he became a laborer for the rail road. No further documents have been found.
