John Lynch
A few minutes after 7 o'clock, John Lynch, one the city's oldest and most esteemed drayman, joined the great majority. He had been sick for some time, but age rather than any specific malady caused his death. Mr Lynch was born in County Galway, Ireland in 1812 and consequently was in his 77th year of his age. When 24 years old he came to came to this county, settling in Mt Savage and Lonaconing for years until just 41 years ago he came to this city to live and for a long time was employed by the Chespeake & Ohio Canal. His wife died in April 1877. Two children, Catherine Lynch and Mrs Margaret Murphy and two grandchildren survive him. The funeral takes place from St Patrick's Church Thursday morning at 9 o'clock. Mr Lynch had many friends who sympathize with
his daughters in their bereavement.
