Helen Marie Bates

Helen Marie Bates, 95, went to her heavenly home on January 23, 2014 in Oklahoma City.

She was born on June 16, 1918, to Buck and Pearl (Nail) Nabours in Montague Co, TX, and attended high school in Ropesville, TX.

She married Vaughn Bates in 1936, and they lived in Lubbock for 48 years, where they attended Lubbock First Nazarene Church. She has lived in Oklahoma City for the past 13 years.

Helen was preceded in death by her parents, her husband and one granddaughter, Terri Ferguson.

She is survived by her daughters, Wanda Plott of Frisco, TX and Gloria Ferguson and husband, Weldon of OKC; brother, Jay Nabours of El Paso, TX; four grandchildren, Curtis Ferguson (Emily), Greg Ferguson (Kim), Todd Plott, and Dana Crawford (Chris); seven great-grandchildren, Chace Crawford, Candice Romo, Chandler, Kayla and Bella Ferguson, Elizabeth Widmer, Austin Plott; and one great-great grandchild, Hawkins Romo. Ma, as her grandkids called her, was dearly loved and will be greatly missed. A funeral service will be held on Sunday, January 26, 1:00 p.m., at Mercer Adams Chapel, 3925 N. Asbury, Bethany, OK. Entombment will be at 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday, January 28, at Resthaven Mausoleum Chapel in Lubbock, TX.
