Jane had three older sisters: Catherine 1817-1856; Hannah 1820-unknown; and Susanna "Susan" 1822-1883.
At about age 30, Jane met William Peter Stevenson, a son of Jane Lewer Arbon and Peter Stevenson of Surry, England. William served as a carriage builder, supposedly for the Queen's Court. They fell in love, but did not marry; their daughter, Frances Catherine, was born and was Christened "Frances Catherine Jeeves" at Clerkenwell, St James 13 April 1856 when Jane was 32.
Jane was living with one of her older sisters in the 1861 Census and noted as a "scholar"; perhaps she was a teacher. Ten years later she was listed as a dressmaker on the London Census of 1871.
Her daughter, Frances Catherine, listed a marriage date for her mother as "1855" and family lore had put this at "about 1858"; however, census records and all dates pertaining to her husband of record, George Shelton, indicate they did not marry until after the death of his first wife in 1874.
It was about that time, when 18 year old Frances Cathrine Jeeves adopted the surname of Shelton, and was known as George's stepdaughter.
After the death her husband, George Shelton, in England, Jane emigrated to America and spent her declining years near her only daughter at Kaysville, Davis, Utah. She lived past the age of 91.
