My grandmother Edna was a character! Strong willed, hard drinking, athletic, a beauty. She married wealthy Ogden Watson White when she was young and settled with him near East Rock in New Haven Ct.
She had at least three children with two living to adulthood-my mom and her brother Ogden White II, My grandfather Ogden died in 1930.
Ogden Watson White II is buried in Maryland and his memorial is here-

She came from a large and happy family. Her sister Marguerite Battersby Monroe is buried in Branford Ct Marguerite Battersby Monroe and her brother Raymond Battersby is in Fairfield
Raymond Battersby
She loved golf, lobsters, Cadillacs, rose geranium soap, opera, canasta, traveling and her winter home in Palm Beach Florida. In 1949 she took into her home my father, who was dying of an heart ailment, my sister and me and my mom.
She enjoyed gardening-especially with her handsome gardener Bill Ballentine and would yell at passersby if they dared to pluck one of her prize roses. Edna loved to sing and had a gorgeous alto voice-I loved going to St Thomas Church early morning so I could hear her sing next to me.
Her house was very large and we had a live in maid and cook plus many other workers to keep the house running. My gramma did not like, or ever do, any housework.
Wonderful Sigrid Anderson was a part of family for decades and lived with us as cook and househelper. Her memorial is here-

My grandmother lived a very full life and had many adventures. She was fearless. Edna passed away after a two year bout of failing health. Her spirit lives in our family. I always fondly remember her having me make her glass of port at noon everyday while she would finish her daily crossword puzzle!!!
