Lt. Col. Walter Leroy Strain, 78, is the son of Robert Roy Strain (1906-1993) and Lena Mae Jones (1910-2006). He was married (1st) to Mary Catherine Bryant (1934- ) on 26 May 1956 in Inverness, FL; he married (2nd) to Susan Csipke (1947- ) on 13 Jan. 1979 in Woodbridge, Prince William County, Virginia. Walter served in the U. S. Marines and received the Bronze Star Medal with Compat "VJ". He earned the award while serving in Vietnam as chief aerial observer with the Air Observation Section, Headquarters Battalion, Third Marine Division, from Aug. 1, 1965 to April 26, 1966.

WALTER L. STRAIN
Walter L. Strain passed away on 19 January 2014 after a long fight with Parkinson's Disease. He was preceded in death by his parents Robert Roy and Lena Mae (Jones) Strain, and his sister, Madge McGee.
Walt was the loving husband of Susan Csipke Strain. He leaves his former wife, Mary Bryant Strain, mother of his four children, Deborah Rodgers (John), Nancy Rubner, William LeRoy Strain (Freeda), and Mary Padilla. He also leaves two step-children, Matthew Doering and Melissa Norman (John); twelve grandchildren: Jeannette Lewis (Travis), Jessica Marsolan, Robert Philippe Marchand, Jr., Steven Padilla, Ashley Rubner, Matthew Strain, Brittany Routhier, Jared Yusko, Chloe Doering, William Doering, Reilly Norman and Caleb Norman; one great-granddaughter Hailey Lewis; and his niece Stephanie Strain.
Walt retired from the U.S. Marine Corps as a Lt. Colonel after 26 years of service and went on to teach at Northern Virginia Community College for 20 years. He was an avid bowler and fisherman and loved the Washington Redskins.
In lieu of flowers, family and friends may contribute to the Parkinson's Disease Foundation or to Capital Caring Hospice or their local hospice organization.
The family will receive friends at Miller Funeral Home, 3200 Golansky Blvd., Woodbridge, VA 22191 on Sunday, January 26, 2014 from 6:00 pm – 8:00 pm. A service will be held at Miller Funeral Home on Monday, January 27, 2014 at 11 am with interment to follow at Quantico National Cemetery.
