Columbia Basin Herald - June 12, 2008

Anita Leslie (Brooks) Kimble, 84, longtime Warden resident, went home to be with her Lord and Savior on Monday June 9 at her daughter's home in Warden.

Anita was born to Leslie W., and Mable (Marks) Brooks in Spokane on May 3, 1924. She lived there through her school years graduating from Lewis and Clark High School. She attended Whitworth College majoring in Theology, then WSU, majoring in art. There she met the love of her life and husband of 61 years, Kenneth Kimble; they were married Aug. 4 1945. Anita followed her husband working road construction and farming in Colfax, Wash., until they moved to Warden in March of 1954 where they raised their family. Kenneth and Anita were one of the pioneer families, farming in the newly developed East Columbia Basin Irrigation Project, making this last March her 54th year in Warden.

Anita was a loving and devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and friend at heart. She was for a time the managing editor of the Warden Register, which she really enjoyed. But the love of handwork and her artistic talents won over her heart for things to do. She was a very fine artist creating pictures with charcoals and doodling with a pencil. Then she began oil painting. There are many of her paintings from Washington to Arizona; many also decorate the walls of local homes. We as a family always looked forward to Christmas to see what painted, crocheted, knitted or quilted treasure she had under the tree for us. In later senior years she would work on two quilts; one at home and one with the ladies at the Warden Senior Center.

Besides her parents, Anita was preceded in death by her husband of 61 years Kenneth, one infant daughter, two infant great-granddaughters and one infant great-grandson. Anita is survived by her two daughters, Gayle and her husband Dan Sullivan of Warden; Lynne Kimble and her companion Tom Lewis of West Richland; her son, Steven and his wife Linda Kimble, also of Warden. Anita is also survived by nine grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren, numerous nieces and nephews.

Being an only child she was blessed with the extended family of her husband's three brothers, wives, and families, Bob and Carol Kimble of Moscow, Idaho; Jim and Kathy Kimble of Warden, Lowell and Mabel Kimble, Idaho deceased. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Friday, June 13 at Kayser's Chapel of Memories with Pastor Jody Bowser officiating.
