Gloria Evelyn (Sykes) Poteet Stierwalt, 79, Paragon, passed away at 9:47 p.m. on Thursday, January 23, 2014 at the IU Health Hospice House in Bloomington.

She was born on Sunday, August 12, 1934 in Paragon, Indiana, to the late George Donald Sykes and Joy June (Ratts) Callis.

Gloria was a 1951 graduate of Eminence High School. She retired from Bank One, where she was an administrative assistant, in 1996 after 30 years of service. She was a member of the Samaria Baptist Church, the O.E.S. Eminence Chapter #546 and was active with the adult council for the Eminence Jobs Daughters Bethel #110.

Survivors are her children, Ronald Stierwalt of Paragon, Donna Baker of Martinsville, Gayle Diane Poteet of Monrovia, Dedee Rhea of Eminence, Debbi Fleener of Paragon and Darla Brewer of Cloverdale; siblings, Marvin Sykes of Paragon and Donna Warden of Alabama; several grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Gloria was also preceded in death by her first husband, Glen H. Poteet, whom she married in 1954 and he passed away on April 29, 1958; second husband, James L. Stierwalt, whom she married on August 6, 1960 and he passed away on April 14, 2002; sons, Paul Stierwalt and James Daryl Stierwalt.

Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, January 29, 2014 at Costin Funeral Chapel with Rev. Charles Tinsley officiating.

Visitation will be on Tuesday, January 28, 2014 from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. and on Wednesday one hour prior to the funeral service.

Burial will be at the Mannan Cemetery in Lewisville. There will be an Eastern Star and Jobs Daughters service on Tuesday at 7:00 p.m.
