(From Savage's Genealogical Dictionary)

John TAYLOR, was killed in the present limits of EastHampton, while going to the rescue of those captured in the "Pascommuck Massacre". For his service in the Falls Fight*, May 19, 1676, his son Thomas, oldest male heir, received from the General Court of Mass. in 1734 a grant of land in Fallstown [now Bernardston], Mass. [from Descendants of Alexander Alvord]

John TAYLOR
Born: 1641, Windsor Berkshire MA
Married: 18 Dec 1662, Northampton Hampshire MA
Died: 13 May 1704, Near Easthampton Hampshire MA

------------------------------------------------------------

John married Thankful Woodward, daughter of Henry Dorchester Woodward and Elizabeth Mather, on 18 Dec 1662 in Northampton Hampshire MA. (Thankful Woodward was born in 1646 in Dorchester Suffolk MA and died in 1724 in Norwalk Fairfield CT.)

From: "The Corbin Collection": "Among those captured was Benjamin Janes, the only one of the five men of those heads of families who was not killed. The savages compelled him to carry a large sack of provisions which they had taken from the houses plundered. He made the weight of this sack an excuse for lagging behind the others, and, watching his chance, he managed to escape, reach Northampton and gave the alarm. Soon a rescue party, which included among its members Samuel Bartlett, (who owned the corn-mill) started in pursuit under the leadership of Capt. John Taylor. As in other massacres up and down the valleys the Indians, finding themselves pursued, "knocked on the head" many of their captives, to use the expression found in the oldest account of this massacre, which states that there were "about seven of them" knocked on the head "who recovered". We know the names of only four.
