Robert "Bob" Liles, 81, died at 10:35 a.m. Sunday, Nov. 13, 2005, at Greenwood Manor Nursing Home in Jerseyville. He was born March 29, 1924, in Carrollton to Frank and Emma (Holmes) Liles. He married the former Elsie Mardell McBride on June 16, 1946, in Hamburg. She died May 4, 2004. He had been store manager at Mundy’s Lumber Co. in Jerseyville and retired in 1989 after 35 years of service. After his retirement, he worked part time at Western Auto and Farm & Home Supply. He enjoyed gardening, fishing, hunting and gathering wild mushrooms. He was a member of the Church of Christ in Jerseyville and served as an elder for about 20 years. Survivors include three daughters and sons-in-law, Mary Lou and Dayle Devening of Fieldon, Peggy and Danny Mize of Edmond, Okla., and Pattie and Charles White of Chandler, Ariz.; five grandchildren, Amy Devening, Brian and Robert Mize and Justin and Amanda White; one sister, Mary Griffith of Jerseyville; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to his wife of 58 years, he was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Melvin Liles; and two sisters, Gladys Winters and an infant, Lucy. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday at Alexander and Gubser Funeral Home and from 10 a.m. until services at 11 a.m. Saturday at the Church of Christ, both in Jerseyville. Patrick Harper and Danny Mize will officiate. Burial will be at Providence Cemetery. Memorials may be given to the Church of Christ or a charity of one’s choice.
