OBITUARY
Joseph Michael Peña, age 14, of Inwood, after a courageous 6-year battle with cancer (Ewings Sarcoma), passed away on November 14, 2005. He was the the beloved son of Crystal Ann Nieves and Robert Winters and brother of Corin Winters. Adored grandson of Yvonne and Carlos Nieves and Robert and Anne Winters. Fond nephew of Carlos and Blanca Nieves and Jennifer Winters.

Joseph was the grandson of my children's Godmother. I grew up with Joseph's mother Crystal and her siblings. To me they weren't just neighbors, they were my cousins, my aunts, my nephew, my niece. We are family. Joseph fought so valiantly to win this battle. We know that he is in a better place now and in no more pain. God bless him and keep him always. He is an angel. We will miss him.

"When I am gone, release me, let me go,
I have so many things to see and do,
You mustn't tie yourself to me with tears. Be happy that we had many years.

I gave you my love, you can only guess,
How much you gave to me in happiness.
I thank you for the love you all have shown, but now it's time I go alone.

Grieve a little while, for if grieve you must,
then let your grief be comforted by trust. It's only for a while that we must part, so blessed are the memories within your heart.

I won't be far away, for life goes on.
So if you need me, call and I will come.

Although you can't see or touch me, I'll be near. And if you listen with your heart, you'll hear, all of my love around you, soft and clear.

And then, when you must come this way alone, I'll greet you with a smile, and say, "Welcome Home"
