James' parents are Barnabas and Hilda (Hillman) Hammond.

James was a Rigger and a Sailmaker.

Per the records "U.S., War of 1812 Service Records, 1812-1815" James fought in and survived the War of 1812 against the British - he was a Private in the 2 REG'T (LINCOLN'S) Mass. Militia at Plattsburg, NY.

He is the direct descendant of Mayflower Pilgrims Francis Cooke and Richard Warren.

This is a book (excluding the Silver Mayflower books) that James' family lines are documented in:
