James A. Amundson, 74, longtime resident of Superior and Lake Nebagamon died on January 21, 2014 after a brief but courageous battle with cancer.Jim was born in Superior, the son of Arnold “Arnie” and Florence “Sis” Amundson and was a 1957 graduate of East High and a 1981 graduate of UW Superior. Jim worked as an accountant for Superior water Light and Power, retiring in 1995 after more than 30 years of employment.Jim's warm smile, positive attitude and cheerful disposition won him many lifelong friends. Volunteering and helping others was a way of life for Jim especially as a member of St. Anthony Catholic Church, the Knights of Columbus and the Lake Nebagamon Lions Club. He was dedicated to the Knights fundraising efforts at the "turkey leg" booth at the fair every summer for over 20 years and enjoyed everything from making the coffee to grilling the turkey legs and visiting with the public.Jim favorite sports were bowling and golfing, and spectator sports, especially watching the Green Bay Packers.He was preceded in death by his father, Arnie.Jim is survived by his wife, Margaret; son, Craig James (Kathy) Amundson; daughter, Theresa Marie (Troy) Picton; mother, Sis Amundson; stepsons, Scott (Shelly), Craig E. (Yvonne) and Peter (Melissa) Anderson; step-grandchildren Charlie, Max, Will, Jack, Edward, Christopher, Emily and Cyrus Anderson; many cousins, nieces, and nephews. He was "big brother" to Bobbe Jean (Jack) Peterson, Gail (Bob) Erdman, Patty Timo, Rick (Lynn) Amundson, Lorie (Denny) Frink, Arlene Osterlund and Doug Amundson.Visitation will be on Fri. Jan. 31 from 5-7p.m. with a scripture service at 6:45pm at Downs Funeral Home, corner of 19th St. and Ogden Ave. Visitation will resume from 10am until the 11am mass of Christian Burial at St. Anthony’s Catholic Church in Superior. Rev. Fr. Sangmoon Kim, Rev. Fr. Dean Buttrick and Rev. Fr. James Tobolski will concelebrate. Interment will be in St. Francis Cemetery in the spring. The Knights of Columbus Honor Guard of Assembly 1208 will be present during his services.If so desired, memorials may be directed to St. Anthony Catholic Church Lake Nebagamon.
