Emma was admitted to a hospital 29 Dec 1954. Obit from Ida County Pioneer Record, Ida Grove, IA dated 20 Jan 1955: "Emma Petty Barman, youngest daughter of Edward J. and Sarah Jane Petty, was born August 16, 1879 at New Market, Taylor County, Iowa. She died Monday, January 10, 1955 in a Sioux City hospital at the age of 76 years. She was united in marriage with Edward J. Pendleton on February 7, 1896. Seven children were born to them, two of whom preceded their mother in death. After several years she was remarried to John Barman on February 8, 1918 and they have made their home in Ida Grove since that time. She is survived by her husband, John, and five children, Mrs. Bessie Corbin of Smithland, Mrs. Clara Hahne of Omaha, Mrs. Edna Oberruter of Danbury, Edd and Raymond Pendleton of Ida Grove. Also eight grandchildren and seven great grandchildren, and one sister, Mrs. Mell Lowell of Westfield. Funeral services were held Thursday, January 13 at 2 p.m. at Moore and Christensen funeral home with Rev. Russell Wilson officiating. Burial was in Mt. Hope cemetery at Battle Creek. Pall bearers were Donald Hahne, Earl Hines, Charles Corbin, Jr., Samuel Hahne, Alvin Corbin, Glen Corbin."
