Richard Ellis Cooper passed away peacefully at his residence in Blackwell on Wednesday, January 22, 2014. He was born to James and Essie (Stout) Cooper on June 27, 1933 in rural Delaware County, near Jay, Oklahoma. He had fond and loving memories of growing up with his grandparents, Edward and Paradine Stout. He lived in Blackwell the majority of his life. Richard served in the United States Army.

On September 15, 1956 he married Barbara Smith at the First Church of God in Blackwell and they resided in Blackwell. In their union they had five children. Richard's employment resume includes Boeing, Wichita, Kansas; Santa Fe Railroad, Blackwell Smelter, Oil field hand for Dave Morgan, roofer for Walter Hoecker Roofing Company and later purchasing the company when Walt retired. Richard owned and operated Cooper Roofing until he retired in 2006.

Richard is survived by his wife, Barbara, of the home, sons Rick Cooper and wife, Dee, of Blackwell; Ron Cooper and wife, Ann, of Blackwell; daughters Karen Bryant and husband, Larry, of Ponca City; and Lori Braden and husband, Richard, of Blackwell. Richard had 18 grandchildren and 22 great grandchildren. He is also survived by his sister, Faye Cooper, of Blackwell.

He was preceded in death by his parents, a son, James Marvin Cooper, sister, Hazel Handy, and brother, Oliver Cooper.

Graveside Services will be held Thursday, January 30, 2014 at 11AM in the Blackwell Cemetery. Arrangements are under the kind guidance of the Amy Stittsworth Funeral Service and Cremation Directors.
