A brickmason, aged about 65 to 67.

During the Civil War, he served as a private in Company B, 26th Alabama Infantry, CSA, but did not finish his enlistment period in the usual fashion. He would tell a story about how he deserted several times, only to be sentenced to be be shot. He escaped prior to that and ended up running into Sherman's troops and fighting with them into Appomattox.

He married first a woman remembered only as Mary Jane and secondly, Sarah Elizabeth Hughes. Mary may have been Sarah's older sister per a family history.

He was buried in "the Confederate cemetery", a part of Porter Cemetery.

Gravesite Details Since the exact location of his grave is not known, there is no marker.
