Joseph William Dobbins, Jr., 85, died on December 29, 2010 after a lengthy illness. He was the second of five children born to Joseph William Dobbins, Sr. and Julia (Turner) Dobbins. He was preceded in death by his parents and siblings, Urma Rosetta Bradshaw and Robert J. Dobbins. He attended schools in Kansas City, Kansas graduating from Sumner High School in 1943. He continued his education at Kansas State University in Manhattan, Kansas, and started the Veterinary Program at Tuskegee University. He was honorably discharged from the United States Army in 1948. He moved to Los Angeles in 1951. He completed his Teacher's Certificate at California State University. He was a member of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Incorporated. In 1950, he married Geraldine Marie Smith. The couple had three children, two sons and a daughter. The marriage was dissolved. He married Evelyn Hatchett in 1963, and they raised a blended family including her two daughters. Evelyn also preceded him in death in 1998. He taught Math and Science at Los Angeles area high schools including L.A. High School, Brett Harte High School and James Forshay Junior High School, from which he retired after 25 years. He is survived by his daughter, two sons, two step-daughters, eight grandchildren, fourteen great-grandchildren, two sisters, and several nephews and nieces. Funeral services: July 15, 2011 at Walnut Boulevard Baptist Church, 334 Parallel Parkway, Kansas City, Kansas.
