Sally (Sarah Jayne) Manfredi Guthrie passed away Saturday afternoon, July 2, 2011, at Allegheny General Hospital, after a sudden and unexpected illness. She would have been 73 years old on July 25th. She is survived and will be profoundly missed by her best friend and husband of 52 years, Richard Guthrie. She was the heart and center of her family and her loss is deeply felt by her two children, Mrs. Shari (Walter) McRae of Richmond, VA and Dr. Steven (Julie) Guthrie of Nashville, TN. She was dearly loved by her siblings: Dr. Gloria Ross (Gary) Jestice, Mrs. Patti (Jim) Higdon, Dr. Pat (Kathy) Manfredi , and Mr. Bill (Lil) Manfredi. She was adored by her seven grandchildren: Ben (Courtney), Erin and Jacob McRae, and Joel, Noah, Sophie and Lucy Guthrie. She was predeceased by one grandson, Samuel Lewis Guthrie. She was cherished by her many nieces, nephews. aunts, uncles, and cousins. Sally was a tireless servant of others and a devoted friend to many in the community. She was a graduate of Washington High School and Chatham College. She was a creative and energetic teacher who for more than twenty years shaped the lives of preschool and elementary school children in Peters Township. After retiring from teaching, she assisted her husband as an administrator for ServiceMaster Services by Guthrie. Since 1964 she was a devoted member of the Christian and Missionary Alliance Church of Upper St. Clair, where she was a Sunday School Superintendent, choir member, and secretary. She was currently an area director for Alliance Women Ministries, an organization she served for many years. Above all she was profoundly devoted to her Lord, Jesus Christ, in whose presence she now finds rest and healing.
