John D Driskill, 96, of Lawton, will be at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, January 24, 2014, at the Post Cemetery, Fort Sill, Oklahoma, with Rev. Samuel Avritt, officiating.
CWO4 Driskill passed away on the 19th of January 2014, at the Lawton Fort Sill Veterans Center where he was a resident.
Burial with full military honors will be at Post Cemetery under the direction of Lawton Ritter Gray Funeral Home
He was born in Pauls Valley, Oklahoma on 25 March 1917. He enlisted in the Army at Fort Sill in 1937 and was assigned to a horse drawn Artillery Battery, in1942 he transferred to a ROTC detachment in Fort Collins, Colorado. WWII took him to Europe and he subsequently served in Germany, Okinawa, Korea, Vietnam and various other assignments in the United States. On retirement he went to work for the state of Colorado, before retiring and moving to Lawton. He then went into property development East of Lawton. His wife, Dortha , preceded him in death on February 2, 1999.
He is survived by his sister, Hilda Buchanan of Purcell and a brother Garland of Houston Texas. His children Cheryl Fly of Lakewood, Colorado and John "Skip" Driskill of Tucson, Arizona; his grandchildren and eleven great grandchildren.
