Sarah Catherine Kilmer was born March 24, 1859 in Centre Village, Colesville Township, Broome County, New York, the daughter of William F and Sarah Jane Van Alstine Kilmer. She appears on the family's 1860 federal census in Centre Village; but by the 1870 census the family had moved to Colchester, Delaware County, New York.

In 1876, at age 17, Sarah married Oliver Perry Davis (1842-1902). Their first two children, both daughters, died at age 5, Lenora (1877-1882) and Sarah (1880-1885). Lenora was first buried at home in the yard; but was disinterred in 1885 to join her sister in Lot 57 (spaces 5 & 6) of the Ellenton Cemetery in Lycoming County, Pennsylvania, where the two share a headstone.

Oliver & Sarah had two more daughters, Emily Marie (1883-1971) and Della L "Delie" (1900-?). After Sarah's death in 1910, Della was subsequently raised by her sister Emily and brother-in-law Stanton J McLean (1865-1936), Emily's first husband.

Having left Broome County as a child, Sarah Catherine spent the remainder of her life in Delaware County. She died at age 50 on January 18, 1910, and was buried in Walton Cemetery alongside husband Oliver.
