Son of James and Pheobe D. Claridge.

A transcribed letter dated 1865 was given to Margaret Tolar at the 2013 Mt. Zion Memorial stating the H.B. Claridge was a Private in Captain W.S. Wood Company, Maderson's Regiment, age 19. It was transcribed by Jesse Anderson who owns the original copy of the letter. W.S. Wood does show up listed in 8th TX CAV, Terry's Rangers which was part of the Texas State Troops. So this unit was most likely part of the Texas State Troops.

"AQUITTED--Mr. Elisha BROWN, of DeSoto Parish, Louisiana, formerly of our town, was tried last week for the killing of Howell B. CLARIDGE, in August 1865. The case was taken up last Thursday and was not concluded at the time we went to press. The jury returned a verdict of "not guilty" and Mr. BROWN was discharged. He remained in town two or three days after his acquittal, and then returned to his family in Louisiana." 25 Sep. 1885, The Fairfield Recorder
