Staff Sergeant Richard Lynn Morgan, Jr., age 38, of Maynard, Ohio died Tuesday, October 5, 2004 in Iraq while serving his country in Operation Iraqi Freedom. He was born on December 20, 1965 in Dayton, Ohio, son of Donna Green Arnold and the late Richard Lynn Morgan, Sr. He was an active duty Staff Sergeant with the U. S. Army Reserve?s 660th Transportation Company, Cadiz, Ohio. He also served in Operation Just Cause in Panama in 1989-1990. Rik was a 1984 graduate of St. Clairsville High School where he was an original member of the St. C. Singers and was a member of the St. C. Red Devil football team. He was an employee of Conway Central Express at Uhrichsville, Ohio. He won an award, the Schutzenschnier, in Germany for pistol marksmanship. He was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post # 8848 at Colerain and the American Legion Post # 666 at Maynard and a member of the PNA # 455 at Maynard. For his courageous efforts Rik?s family will be presented his Purple Heart and the Bronze Star by the United States Army. In addition to his father, Rik was preceded in death by his grandparents, Elmer and Louise Morgan and Alvin and Mary Green; and a nephew, Zachary. Surviving are his wife Diana U. Scharfenberg Morgan; his mother and dad, Donna and Harry Arnold of St. Clairsville; a son, Richard Lynn Morgan, III; a daughter, Kimberly May Morgan; mother-in-law and father-in-law, Tatjana Maria Kubicki Scharfenberg and Peter Scharfenberg; two brothers, Robert C. (Taylor) Morgan of Kansas City, Missouri and Hank (Amanda) Arnold of Flushing; two sisters, Anita Gillespie of New Philadelphia and Bonita (Shawn) Girty of Bethesda; a brother-in-law, Frank Michael Scharfenberg; several nieces and nephews and a special aunt, Linda Fortuna. Family and friends will be received on Thursday from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. and 6 to 9 p.m. at Toothman Funeral Home in St. Clairsville where services will be held on Friday at 10 a.m., with Ch.(COL) Charles Flesher officiating. Burial will follow with Full Military Honors at Holly Memorial Gardens, Pleasant Grove, Ohio. There will be a meal following the committal services at the cemetery at the Maynard PNA Hall.
