Herbert Eckstein, 81, of Sunman, Indiana passed away Saturday, August 18, 2012 at his home.
He was born on December 20th, 1930 in Batesville Indiana, the son of Anthony and Cora (Meierle) Eckstein. Herbert married Marceda Lambert on June 30, 1956 at St. Nicholas Catholic Church in Sunman Indiana.
He served his country proudly as a Staff Sergeant in the United States Air Force and was a lifelong farm machinery mechanic. Herbert loved to fish in his spare time and was a member of the Men's Sodality at St. Nicholas Church and the Sunman American Legion.
Marceda Eckstein, Herbert's wife of 56 years, survives. Also surviving are sons Kevin (Debbie) Eckstein, of Cincinnati, OH; Philip (Rebecca) Eckstein of Sunman; daughter Donna (Steve) Delap of Milan; and sons Nick (Tina) Eckstein of Osgood and Larry (Mary) Eckstein of Osgood; 6 grandchildren, Adam and Justin Eckstein, Amber and Sara Eckstein, Stefanie Crawford and Randi Delap. Brothers surviving include Leonard Eckstein and Mark Eckstein, both of Batesville.
Besides his parents, Herbert was preceded in death by brothers, Robert (Happy) Eckstein, Paul Eckstein, George Eckstein and sisters; Francie Kohlman, Helen Melvin, and Leona Sarringhaus.
Funeral mass will be held Tuesday, August 21 at 10:00am at St. Nicholas Catholic Church, Sunman, Indiana with service officiated by Father Frank Eckstein. Burial will follow in St. Nicholas Cemetery, Sunman, Indiana. Friends may visit with Herbert's family from 4:00 pm until 8:00 pm, with a Rosary Service at 3:30 pm, Monday August 20, 2012 at Cook Funeral Home, 107 Vine Street Sunman, Indiana.
