He married Cecelia Piercey around 1850 in North Carolina.

In the 1860 census he is shown living with Cecelia and their three children in Yancey County---not in Gilmer County, Georgia---where his parents, and some others family members, had moved to from North Carolina.

Some family historians believe he was the W. M. Woodard who enlisted July 5, 1861 in Co D 11th Ga Inf Regt at Dalton, Ga. (along with his brother Monterville) and was discharged July 15, 1862 at Richmond, Va. after a horse fell on him fracturing his right shoulder during battle.

In the mid-1870's he moved with his family, along with his father Isham, mother Rebecca, brother Monterville, and other relatives from Georgia to Searcy Co. Arkansas.

He married (1) Cecelia Piercy in North Carolina around 1850, (2) the widow Susannah J. Barnes about 1875 with whom he moved to Arkansas.

(Woodard family descendants believe he is buried with his second wife Susannah at McMahan Cemetery in an unmarked grave).
