Nettie Smith Chewning, 76, of Lynchburg, passed away on Wednesday, July 17, 2013. She was the wife of the late Alfred B. Chewning. Born on April 1, 1937 in Lynchburg, she was the daughter of the late Thomas Edgar Smith and the late Ella Eades Smith.

Nettie is survived by one son, Richard B. Chewning and wife, Carol of Rustburg; two grandsons, Michael Christopher Chewning of Appomattox and Travis Morgan Chewning and wife, Kelsey of MO; and six great-grandchildren. In addition to her husband and parents, Nettie was predeceased by one grandson, Jayden Ethan-Carter Chewning; and two brothers, Thomas Edgar Smith, Jr. and Joseph Richard Smith.

Nettie was retired from RST Marketing and was of the Baptist faith.

The family will receive friends from 3:00-5:00 p.m. on Sunday, July 21, 2013 at Tharp Funeral Home, Lynchburg. Private services will be held at a later date.
