Son of Thomas Henry Angell, Sr. & Barbara Hay; husband of Ida Mary Jeffrey (1862-1889), married Dec. 24, 1885 at Kingston, Tuscola, Michigan.

Also the 2nd husband of Caroline Shelley (widow of Alex Whyte), married April 6, 1891 at Maryhill (formerly New Germany) in Waterloo County, Ontario.

Hercules and Ida had 2 children: Henry Lawrence 1887; Mary Ida (Mrs. Wm. Duncan) 1889.

Hercules and Caroline had 7 children: Margaret Regina 'Jean' 1892; Roy Louis 1893; Francis Harold George 'Frank' 1896; Susannah Josephine 'Susan' 'Susie' 1896; George Leonard 1897; Marjorie Caroline 1899; Elizabeth Thelma 1902.

Obituary: Mr. H. Angell Dies on Sunday. Elora's oldest man, Mr. Hercules Archer Angell, died in the Elora Nursing Home on Sunday, January 25th, 1959, following an illness of several months. He was in his 96th year and, until last November, had been about in his home and had been able to enjoy his neighbours and visits from his relatives and friends. Mr. Angell had been an active man throughout his long life. He was employed for some years by the John C. Mundell Furniture factory and afterwards was caretaker of the Elora Public and High Schools. During his years in the latter occupation he was a general favourite with the children and highly regarded by the Board of Education. Born on a farm in Pilkington he was a son of the late Thomas Angell and his wife Barbara Hay. He had lived in Elora since 1874. He was married to Miss Ida Jefferey of Michigan and they had two children, Lawrence of Detroit, Michigan, and May (Mrs. William Duncan) who died in the influenza epidemic following the first war. After the death of his first wife he was married for a second time to Miss Caroline Shelley of Winterbourne who predeceased him. Of their family of seven children only three are still living, a son, George, of Acton; and two daughters, Jean (Mrs. H. Scherbaum) of Brooklyn, N.Y., and Thelma (Mrs. H. V. Garvey) of Walled Lake, Michigan. Two sons and two daughters predeceased him, Roy and Frank Angell, Susan (Mrs. W. Baline) and Marjorie. A sister, Mrs. John Larmon, also survive him. Mr. Angell was a member of Knox Presbyterian Church, Elora, and the funeral services, held in the Towriss Funeral Home, on Tuesday, January 27th, was conducted by the Reverend R. C. MacLean. The pallbearers were Messrs. Edward Walser, Thomas Hagarty, M. Magnus, Gordon Duncan, E. R. Simmons and Edward McKeown. ['The Elora Express' (Elora, Ontario) Thursday Jan 29, 1959 page 1.]
