Samuel Wesley Holden, Sr. 94 of Southport passed away on January 15, 2014 at Ocean Trail Nursing Center in Southport.

Mr. Holden was born April 17, 1919 in Southport, the son of the late Robert Wesley Holden and Mamie Carrier Holden Hood. He was raised in Southport and was a veteran of the US Navy having served in WWII. He had formerly been a member of Bethel Baptist Church. Mr. Holden had worked for the Cape Fear River Pilots, Stone Towing as tug boat captain and American Oil in Wilmington. He was preceded in death by his wife Edna "Peggy" Holden and a brother William Campbell Holden.

Surviving is one son Samuel Wesley Holden, Jr. of Puyallup, Washington; four grandchildren; twelve great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

At Mr. Holden's request no services will be held.
