Marilyn Jean Schaffer, went home to her reward at 6:20 am, January 18, 2014 in Vanderbilt University Hospital in Nashville, TN. She and her husband, Rev. J. L. Schaffer pastored for over 50 years, pastoring churches in Terre Haute, Rosedale, Alfordsville, Greencastle, Lebanon, and 29 years in Monticello. During their first 9 years in Monticello they pastored the First Assembly of God on Condo Street, which the congregation outgrew and then built what is now Lake Schaffer Christian Center. For the past 20 years she helped pioneer and pastored Calvary Temple. She was a great wife, mother, grandmother and friend who will be greatly missed. She had a love for her family and friends and church.

Marilyn was born on July 16, 1936 to William and Frances (Wilson) Slavens in Terre Haute, Indiana.

Burial will take place: Private Family Burial will be in the I.O.O.F. Riverview Cemetery of rural Monticello, Indiana.

On August 6, 1955 in Terre Haute, Indiana she married Pastor Jimmy Lee "J.L." Schaffer. He passed away on Friday, July 14, 2006.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; a sister, Joyce Ridge; a brother, Quince Slaven; and sister-in-law, Eileen Slaven.

Survivors include:
Daughters,Cindy Schaffer - Bear of Bowling Green, Kentucky, and Susan (husband Bob) Schaffer - Smith of Bowling Green, Kentucky; Sons,Tim Schaffer and
Charlie Roberts both of Monticello, Indiana;
Nine (9), Grandchildren; Eleven (11) Great-Grandchildren;
Brothers,James (wife Murietta) Slaven of Lafayette, Indiana,Robert Slaven of LaGrange, Indiana, and
William "Bill" (wife Eddie) Slaven of Tampa, Florida;
Sister-in-law,Rev. Mary Slaven of Terre Haute, Indiana,
Brother-in-law,Bill Ridge of Terre Haute, Indiana;
Several Nieces, Nephews, Great Nieces, and Great Nephews.
