Larry E. "Foxy" Engert, 64 of Cape Girardeau, formerly of Frohna, MO, passed away Monday, January 13, 2014 at Saint Francis Medical Center in Cape Girardeau. He was born February 19, 1949 in Wittenberg, MO, son of Elmer Otto and Marjella Martha Wunderlich Engert.
Larry graduated from Perryville High School in 1967. He served during the Vietnam War from March 26, 1969 until being honorably discharged on January 4, 1971. He worked for East Perry Lumber, and Plaza Tire in Cape Girardeau. From 1991 - 2008 he lived in California and drove a cement truck, retiring due to declining health. He enjoyed league bowling, baseball and softball. Larry was a lifelong member of Immanuel Lutheran Church in Altenburg.
Loving survivors include; two daughters, Sara (Ray) Thacker of Scott City, MO and Emily Engert (Rodney Chidester) of Benton, MO; two sisters, Wanda Choate of Burfordville and, Betty DeRousse of St. Mary, MO; six grandchildren, Kolby, Devon, and Kinadie Thacker, Kodi, Ethan, and Chloe Chidester; three nieces and two nephews.
The visitation and service will be held at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Altenburg. Friends may call Wednesday, January 15, 2014 from 4:00-7:00 PM and Thursday, from 9:00 until service time at the church. The funeral will be Thursday at 11:00 AM at the church with Rev. Jonathan Stites officiating. Interment will be in Immanuel Lutheran Church Cemetery with full military honors.
Memorials are suggested to Immanuel Lutheran Church or Immanuel Lutheran Cemetery Fund.
