A 45 year resident of Rancho Cordova CA, passed away suddenly on Nov. 19, 2013 at the age of 73. He was born in Oakland, CA on May 13th, 1940. Rich graduated from Oakland High School & enlisted in the USAF in 1958. He served overseas in Greenland, Okinawa, Guam, & Vietnam. Rich was also stationed stateside at Peterson Field in CO, Hamilton AFB & Mather AFB in CA, as Aircraft Mechanic & Crew Chief (on C-47, HU-16, T-29 & C5A aircraft). In 1978 he retired, USAF TSGT as Crew Chief on C5A aircraft at Travis AFB. Rich worked as a handy man & was an active member of the ECV for many years following his retirement. He enjoyed camping, gardening, cooking and spending time with his family, friends & pets. He was very proud to be a retired USAF Veteran & loved attending military air shows & museums. He was preceded in death by his parents, Edward & Betty Freitas, and sister Connie (Kenton). He is survived by his daughter Tracy Gilmore & son-in-law Kerry, son Steve Freitas, cousins Stephanie (Siebert) & Gayle (Lee), three grandsons Steven, Daniel & Samuel, and nephew Chris (Kenton). We loved him very much & he will be deeply missed. Private service & internment were held at the Sacramento Valley National Cemetery in Dixon, Ca. on Dec. 9, 2013. Rich was a generous supporter of the Sac. & East Bay SPCA's. Donations in his memory to any SPCA are appreciated.
